In 2024/25, NHS England spent £8.3 billion on temporary staffing alone. Billions more on recruitment, training, and agency cover. Almost none of it reaches the individual worker. It funds structures. It funds systems. It does not fund the person. And every fix arrives too late. Burnout is detected after someone leaves. Isolation is noticed after someone breaks. The system has never once asked how the people keeping it alive actually feel.
